They have the means to force us to coming to the battlefield, no matter what. However, while on the battlefield, we are free to our own devices. So by all means, feel free to say 'no' as much as you'd like to at that point. The enemies will be too busy trying to wipe out everyone else on the battlefield to properly hear you, however.
