[The feed shows a nice view of absolutely nothing. There is, however, the sound of someone spitting. Very lovely. He just woke up with a mouthful of dead rotting leaves. His day is off to a great freaking start, that's what.]

Ugh, nasty! Ow--... ow... ow. [Don't let the nonchalance fool you. He's realizing he's alive. Taking in a deep breath, and letting it out.

He's alive.

... And also FREEZING COLD. But wait until he finds a way home! This is impossible, but maybe-- just maybe--]

Hahah... jeez, it's c-c-cold. Am I in K-Keterburg or something?

-- Hey, what's...

[And here's when he brushes the journal off. Hello, there's a half-naked redhead getting up close and personal, and turning it upside down, and then shaking it out a bit. What is this strange and mystifying technology? It sure as hell isn't his journal.]

Weird.

[Feeling something tickle his shoulder, he reaches over to brush it off. And then he notices the wings, red with gold tips just like his hair. He has wings. This is not a drill. Luke drops the journal in favor of screaming like the grown man he isn't.]

W-what the hell is going on!?

[NO LUKE DON'T PULL ON THOSE--] —OW! [Yeah, that hurt more than anything else in his life. Now he's curled up over his knees again, trying not to cry. He almost blacked out there.]

G-guess they're real...

[At first Tear can't respond, not when he says her name the way he just did. There were so many things it could mean and she didn't know which of them she wanted it to be, so her only answer is silence.

But she knows she can't leave him like that, nor does she want to for all the emotions welling within her. So she smiles for him, sad and small yet genuine in her happiness to hear his voice again.]

... Yes, it's me. Please, don't do anything reckless.

[He laughs. Typical.] Nope, sorry to disappoint. Think of that book like a communication device. You can speak to anyone else with one of these things over them.... and you're on camera right now.

[In just a moment his face will appear in the video screen grinning wryly.] See?

[Ion recognizes that voice the moment he hears it. Unfortunately, the sound of that same voice crying out in pain is enough of a distraction that he doesn't really think before calling out in response -- not taking into consideration how Luke might feel about hearing the disembodied voice of someone he knows to be dead.]

[...you know, assuming Luke recognizes the voice talking back to him. He still sounds enough like Ion, but his voice has grown a bit deeper in his time being in Luceti.]

Luke! Are you all right?

[Give him a minute, because Asch isn't the kind of person to joke and that's a pretty bad joke.]

Wh... what?

[No, seriously. He stops where he is and just... looks around, with new eyes.]

Why-- how? I don't-- I don't understand.

[It doesn't make any sense. Not once has Luke ever dreamed of actually going to another world. Especially against his will. He has promises to keep. He has journal entries to write. He has a place to come back to.]

So they revived us just to keep us here?

[WHOAAAAAAAAAA NEAT. He waves at the blue-haired guy in the journal.]

You can see me too, huh? That's pretty cool.

Hey, do you have any idea where I can find my stuff?

[He takes in a breath, small and shaky, his eyes wide for her to see. And then he smiles-- bright and unclouded, like the sun peeking over a hill.]

Tear! [She's here. She's real. He's real-- and she's worried about him. He laughs a little, quiet and happy and a little too giddy for everything he's dealing with.] Tear...

I'm okay. I won't do anything stupid, I promise.

Hahah, thanks... I think.

[He glances around, and tries to huddle in closer to himself because holy hell it's COLD out here.]

I can hear a river nearby. That's about it, though. The rest is just woods.

[Luke fumbles the journal, then catches it. That sounds kind of like... someone going through puberty? But it's unmistakably--]

[WELP THIS JUST GOT A WHOLE LOT MORE AWKWARD]

It's refreshing to know you're as helpful as ever. [He says teasingly as he reaches with a free hand to adjust his glasses.]

I believe that I can work with what I have now. Do try not to die while I find you.

Jeez, thanks for the vote of confidence.

[He settles down on a fallen log, drawing his bare feet up with him to keep warm, journal splayed out in his lap.]

I don't think it ever snowed this much in Baticul. It's so cold.

Is it? [He smiles wryly.] When you've been raised at what is practically Mt. Roneal's doorstep, this kind of weather seems mild in comparison.

[He's left the house and starts following the river into the forest.]

Of course, I doubt that it helps your case that you are currently in quite the state of undress.

[Revived... us.

Also telling. And uncomfortable as hell, besides. Asch is silent for a long moment, then shoves his discomfort aside. He's had years to contemplate his own demise, so the drama of it isn't quite what it used to be. A Luke from beyond the grave is especially unusual, though.]

"I don't know for sure. It has something to do with the nature of this world- the dead don't stay dead, and our lives are tied to the wings on our back. That's why I told you not to damage them."

[Dumbass. Yeah, he's still mad.]

[You'd think this kind of mix-up would have happened more often, considering how long Florian was in Luceti before, but it still manages to catch him off-guard again.]

[For now, he doesn't give a definite answer, pausing for a moment before simply pushing through with a different question. Getting Luke out of the cold was more important right now.]

...has someone offered to come find you yet? I can't imagine the village is too far away from where you are now. [Hopefully. The Malnosso can be so rude sometimes.]

[The Malnosso are totally rude. It's their fault he's in this mess.]

Yeah, Guy and the others are coming for me. I'll be all right.

[He looks down at the journal for a long moment, reading over the words. It's some pretty magical stuff, but beyond that, he can't get something out of his head.]

... I'm sorry. This is-- [One of the first friends he made outside of home.]

It's Ion. Isn't it?

[Please, don't be wrong.]

I'm not even sure you're human. I mean, you never seemed to break a sweat in Mt. Zaleho, either.

[God, he could use a trip to a raging hot volcano right now.]

[But he shakes his head softly at the latter comment, his grin growing more serpentine.]

My, is that what you believe happened? Do you have a description for this so-called mugger?

[Guy? Sounds like he came back into the village right on time. But if someone is coming for Luke, that's good. Ion probably wouldn't be able to track him down very well himself.]

[And even though this is a conversation he'd rather have in person, he's not about leave Luke hanging on a question like that. Did one of the others mention how this place works?]

...yes, it is. [And if Luke knows Florian that means--] It's... good to hear your voice again, Luke.

[Some people hate the cold, but for Ven, who's always lived at a pretty high elevation, the winter weather's always a dream. Of course, the fact that he's dressed up in a scarf, mittens, and coat might have something to do with it. The Malnosso were never that merciful with newbies, plopping people down without more than pants and light dresses.

And who's Ven to ignore cries of distress? When he hears Luke shout-- and he knows that voice, Ven never forgets a friend-- he grinds to a halt, places a hand to his ear, and sprints towards the sound. Luke's appearance confirms his suspicion, and Ven picks up the speed before he does anything else.]

Wait, stop! You're gonna hurt yourself if you keep at it!

[So here we have one blonde haired dork, now roughly Luke's age. A total stranger to him, no doubt.]

Oh, the river... There's something I'm familiar with. If you follow the current you should make it into town.

[However. Hmmm. There's something he should confirm first.]

Though maybe you should wait if someone's already offered to come get you. It's pretty easy to get lost.

[Wait a minute, he recognizes that voice. He'd know that yelling anywhere...]

... Luke? Is that you?

[Meanwhile, he's still reeling. He's been brought back, but why? By who? If there's a way to Auldrant, why doesn't Asch sound more frustrated about not being there? And what the hell is with the wings?

He has so many questions, but the cold and exhaustion hit him in waves. He has to stop for a minute and concentrate on actually keeping himself warm.]

I-I wasn't going to hurt them. I just wanted to see if they were real.

[Turns out they are. Remarkably so. He wavers a little, but manages to stay on his feet somehow.]

Follow the current, huh...

[He rubs his hands along his arms, trying to hop a little so he stays warm.]

Yeah, they're coming for me, so I'm just hanging out by the river for now. I hope I'm not out too far...

[He hasn't had the whole spiel yet, so he's still curious.]

[- disappeared, but. Now he's stuck on that minor detail. Ion and Sync disappeared with their clothes.]

Yeah. You can write in it like a book to send messages too, but there's also voice and video options. [He offers a short wave in response, amused. Guess this guy might not be used to this sort of technology.... or just communication devices being a book functionally, the latter of which he could completely understand.]

You can find your stuff in the shops in the plaza. New arrivals' clothes show up in the clothing shop, and if you were carrying a weapon, that'll show up in the smithy.

[He's already figured out some of it. Luke's dead. Asch is dead. If they're both alive, then Ion has to be, too.

But beyond waking up exhausted, beyond the wing pain, even beyond the headache and shock of Asch contacting him-- he's aware that it's Ion, it's really Ion. Before he can really collect himself, the journal's trembling in his hands.]

Ion-- Ion.

[He lets out a little breath, and then everything is kind of blurry. Whoops. Those are tears, aren't they?]

Hahah, sorry. I just... I never thought I'd see you like this. [He wipes furiously at his cheeks.] Ugh, it looks like I'm sad but I'm not. I'm actually really, really happy.

I-I can't wait to see everyone. You'll be there too, right?
